Description
The 1960′s were decade of innovation at the Indianapolis 500. In 63 European car builders showed the old guard that light mid engines cars were the way to go. By 67 no front engine cars made it into the race. The 1967 race was almost won by this STP sponsored car with a side mounted Turbine power plant. The car being driven by Parnelli Jones dominated the field but with only 3 laps to go a $6 bearing failed allowing AJ Foyt to win his third 500.

Thank You All Mike, the turbine made a small comeback in 1968 and I have made a painting of the Lotus STP wedge car http://fineartamerica.com/featured/lotus-stp-indy-turbine-david-kyte.html After these cars made such a good showing the turbines were restricted by a rule change.
