Crocodile embryo research. Crocodile egg that has been dissected to reveal the embryo as part of research comparing crocodiles and dinosaurs. The science of comparing anatomical traits across different species is called comparative anatomy, and is used to draw conclusions about how different species evolved and how they are related. Crocodiles and dinosaurs evolved from a common ancestor, and crocodile embryos can be compared with fossilised dinosaur embryos. This research is being carried out by Czech palaeontologist Martin Kundrat, who specialises in dinosaur embryology. Photographed in 2011.
