Feeding mosquito. Female Aedes aegypti mosquito feeding on human blood. The female mosquito feeds by piercing the skin and sucking blood through the proboscis (tube-shaped mouthpiece). She uses the blood meal for the production of eggs. This species of mosquito is found throughout tropical Africa and in parts of South America. It is a vector for the transmission of yellow fever, Chikungunya, Dengue fever and zika viruses to humans.
