I bought this as a gift for my daughter and she loved it. The tuxedo cat painting was beautifully done. The blue and purple background was perfect to showcase the artist rendering of the cat.

Artist's Description

One of the most successful collaborations in film was the Hungarian born Emeric Pressburger (1902-1988) and the Englishman Michael Powell (1905-1990). Their company was known as "The Archers."

Their productions would open with an arrow hitting the bull's eye on a target. Both "Black Narcissus" (1947) and "The Red Shoes" (1948) were shot using the three strip Technicolor process.

No modern day film stock can quit match the vivid (some say too vivid) colors of Technicolor. Both films feature breathtaking use of color. The last American film using Technicolor was "Godfather 2."

The process was just too expensive, and time consuming in grinding out multiple prints.

This shot is of Tom Harmon, taken in 1965 in Aberdeen, South Dakota for use in a news story on KXAB TV.

About David Lee Guss

David Lee Guss

I first became obsessed with photography and motion pictures while growing up in post WW2 Manila in the Philippine Islands in the late 1940's/early 1950's. Film noirs were a particular influence. But my first love remains the theater. I acted in numerous amateur productions from 1958 to 1978. In 1979 I earned a MA in drama from the University of Arizona; earlier getting a BA in English from the University of Minnesota, where I co-founded the first film society on campus and ran it for four years. While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life. I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
