Description
Born in Agartala, P.K. Roy calls himself a ?landscape artist?. Using watercolors
as his main medium of expression, he successfully translates his thoughts and ideas onto paper. But what made this artist paint this devotional series? As a young boy, growing up in Tripura, every morning he would hear Krishna devotees chant prayers and sing Bhajanas in tune to the sounds of mridangs, in praise of the lord. This morning routine inspired him for a long time now and has finally found its place, so to speak, on his creative renderings. While painting this series, his objective was to unite devotees from all over India. He says that his paintings form a common platform for Krishna devotees, irrespective of where they come from. Finding solace in Krishna is their underlying commonality, which he portrays beautifully in this series. He has also visited Mathura and Vrindavan and felt that he wanted to bring this celebration of Krishna to the fore using his paintings. He admits that like all artists, his imagination has also played a major part in the type of colours and clothes that he has depicted in his paintings, which may not necessarily be in keeping with the actual clothing of a Krishna devotee. But trivialities apart he has captured the very essence of a devotee in prayer. The sheer undeniable affection and dedication of a bhakt?s prayers seem to fill every inch of these paintings. A combination of washes and glazes in bold colours creates an indelible effect on the spectators mind. The airy, translucent effect of the hues compells the viewer to embark on a journey to another world where one achieves a state of total peace. His mastering of this technique is truly unique and brings the subject alive, in every sense of the word.
This young Delhi-based artist is a prolific painter and has been working on this series for a couple of years now. His creative journey continues as he seeks inspiration from all aspects of life.
