"Molas Lake Sunrise" is an early morning photograph of Molas Lake, near Silverton, Colorado. At 10,515 feet, Molas Lake gets cold any night of the year. While camping at Molas Lake in July, we awoke to see fog covering most of the lake. Forgetting breakfast, we spent hours trying to capture the beauty that we were seeing with our eyes. This is one of my last images, looking north toward Silverton, as the rising sun was dissipating the fog.
AAA has called Molas Campground "The Most Scenic Campground in Colorado." The town of Silverton is a Statutory Town that is the county seat of, and the only incorporated municipality in San Juan County, Colorado. Silverton is a former silver mining camp, all of which is now included in a federally designated National Historic Landmark District, the Silverton Historic District. San Juan County holds the record for being the county with the highest average elevation in the continental United States.
