JITNY unloading vacationer cars here once ferried US Army troops and armored vehicles to beaches under assault in WW11. My USN duty some 25 years later was aboard LST 1126( Landing Ship Tank) transporting Marines to training exercises in peacetime Pacific. McCalls New Yorker cover hangs above my ship's plaque.

Steam engine locomotives have been a favorite since childhood in the '40s. "Train Race" hangs below a photo of a family member from the '20s in his conductor attire.

Artist's Description
This was taken from an overlook on the Long Beach Peninsula. I was the only person enjoying this beautiful sunset from this overlook.
Sunset or sundown is the daily disappearance of the Sun below the western half of the horizon, i.e. at an azimuth greater than 180 degrees, as a result of Earth's rotation.
The time of sunset is defined in astronomy as the moment when the trailing edge of the Sun's disk disappears below the horizon. The ray path of light from the setting Sun is highly distorted near the horizon because of atmospheric refraction, making the sunset appear to occur when the Suns disk is already about one diameter below the horizon. Sunset is distinct from dusk, which is the time at which the sky becomes completely dark, which occurs when the Sun is approximately eighteen degrees below the horizon. The period between sunset and dusk is called twilight. Sunset creates unique atmospheric conditions such as the often intense orange and red colors of the Sun and the sur...
About Robert Bales
I am a retired teacher, coach, and athletic director. While my wife, Judy, and I were teaching she had a photo studio, and I had a dark room where I did black and white and color. Some were for the studio while most of it was just a hobby. When we retired in 2000, we sold our house in Eastern Washington and moved onto our boat, Last Class, and our motorhome. We sold Last Class a few years ago and bought a small house in Yuma, Arizona and bought another one in Emmett Idaho. Now we spend the summers in Emmett and the winters in Yuma. Over our 50 years of marriage, we have always had an interest in photography and both of us enjoy taking the photos for this site. I have always used Cannon cameras and now I am using the 7D for most of the...
