The Abbey had to be rebuilt from the ground up after WWII. It was destroyed by the allies. The process resulted in the deaths of those who had taken shelter in the abbey knowing that it was a safe place for noncombatants. It was not. The museum holds many pieces of the destroyed abbey which I found wonderful in their own resting place.
