Robert Bales replied:

Thanks so much!! This one just walked by our glass door in the afternoon.

Fantastic capture! In summer we see them making their way everywhere!

This great shadow sure adds interest to this capture, Robert! L/F

Nice catch, Robert! These are very interesting animals! I like the spider, but there's something special about its shadow!! V.

Robert Bales replied:

Yes they are and the shadow sure gives it a little different effect and thanks for the vote!!

Cool shot Robert. These are fast moving and difficult to shoot.

Robert Bales replied:

This one very slow because it was only 60 degrees that day and thanks for looking and the comments.

Fantastic shot, the shadow makes it bigger and scarier!! F/L.

Robert Bales replied:

Yes it does and thanks for the L/F!!

Cool catch. I like the shadow too. Amazing little creatures. I once saw one in my rear view mirror (!) in Oklahoma, crossing the road. Turned around to photograph it. L/F

Thanks Inge for the review and the L/F. Did you get some good shots?

Wow! Scary! Beautiful capture, Robert! f/v/tweet

Very nice little towel, fits perfectly in our Japanese theme bathroom.

Extremely poor quality, complete rip off as picture disappeared after the first wash. The wash was a cool programme for delicates and the towel was washed on its own. I won't ever order from them again

The towels are beautiful! Thank you

Artist's Description

While having lunch this week my wife looked outside and this one was walking down our sidewalk. We took it out to the desert and released it. Aphonopelma hentzi, the Texas Brown tarantula, (also known as Oklahoma Brown tarantula or Missouri tarantula), is one of the most common species of tarantula thriving in the southern-most United States today. Texas Browns can grow in excess of a four inch leg span, and weigh more than 3 ounces as adults. The body is dark brown in color. Shades may vary between individual tarantulas and is more distinct after moult. Tarantulas comprise a group of often hairy and very large arachnids belonging to the Theraphosidae family of spiders, of which approximately 900 species have been identified. This article only describes members of Theraphosidae, although some other members of the same suborder are commonly referred to as "tarantulas". Most species of tarantulas are not dangerous to humans, and some species have become popular in the exotic pet trade....

About Robert Bales

Robert Bales

I am a retired teacher, coach and athletic director. While my wife, Judy, and I were teaching she had a photo studio, and I had a dark room where I did black and white and color. Some was for the studio while most of it was just a hobby. When we retired in 2000, we sold our house in Eastern Washington and moved onto our boat, Last Class, and our motorhome. We sold Last Class a few years ago and bought a small house in Yuma, Arizona and bought another one in Emmett Idaho. Now we spend the summers in Emmett and the winters in Yuma. Over our 50 years of marriage, we have always had an interest in photography and both of us enjoy taking the photos for this site.
