I bought this mug for my Daughter Liesel and she's a fan of Clifton Mill. Especially during Christmas! A great mug and it reflects the mill during the holiday season.

This is a great picture. Shout out to John Boyd on his photography. The mig of this however is blurry and I’m disappointed. The original picture is not blurry, so I’m not sure why the print is.

This mug came out great. It’s a gift for my Dad. Thank you John Boyd and fine Arts America.

I love the mug because of the photo, the color I chose and the mug size. The only negatives are that while I knew the photo was small, it's a little too narrow. I have a Marilyn mug that I did not buy online, and it spans the entire mug as two copycat photos. Also, the inside of the mug is not smooth as most mugs are. Otherwise, it's fine, as is its price.

Mugs are well made very happy .

Artist's Description

John Wayne gave his first great film performance in Howard Hawks' "Red River," shot in Elgin, Arizona a short distance from the US/Mexico border. Lensed in 1946 it wasn't released until 1948. 22 years later the Hawks/Wayne teaming ended with the pallid "Rio Lobo," the third production in their trilogy of "Rio Bravo," "Eldorado" and "Lobo." Robert Mitchum called the script "an even bigger piece of crap than El Dorado." Hawks had been given the opportunity to either direct it or "Monte Walsh," selecting the Duke vehicle as Lee Marvin was supposedly inebriated when discussing the project. Hawks ended up himself feeling that Duke, at 63, was too old to carry a picture and later was quoted as saying, "I didn't think it was any good." A friend who witnessed it told me that Duke had to use a small ladder to mount and dismount his horse. Moments after taking this photo of Duke, I was asked to leave the set, perhaps fearing I would photograph him getting on the horse via a ladder....

About David Lee Guss

I first became obsessed with photography and motion pictures while growing up in post WW2 Manila in the Philippine Islands in the late 1940's/early 1950's. Film noirs were a particular influence. But my first love remains the theater. I acted in numerous amateur productions from 1958 to 1978. In 1979 I earned a MA in drama from the University of Arizona; earlier getting a BA in English from the University of Minnesota, where I co-founded the first film society on campus and ran it for four years. While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life. I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
