Nerve cell, computer artwork. This cell, also called a neuron, is from the nervous system. It is responsible for collecting, interpreting and relaying information around the body. It collects information from other nerve cells through its network of branching dendrites. These pass information to the cell body (centre) where it is processed by the nucleus (orange). Information is passed on through the axon (running to bottom right). This is surrounded by Schwann cells (each with a small orange nucleus), which produce a sheath of the protective substance myelin, which aids signal transmission.
