Description
Skin lesion diagnosis. Hands holding a SIAscope that is used to aid diagnosis of a number of skin disorders, including cancers, psoriasis and photodamage. The SIAscope (spectrophotometric intracutaneous analysis scope) is placed over a lesion on the skin. Visible and infrared wavelengths of light are used to obtain pictures of the skin, which are processed to produce SIAgraphs of the skin components. The image on the computer screen shows the amount of melanin in the dermis of the skin. Red areas indicate a lot of melanin in the dermis, which can be related to incidence of melanoma skin cancer. The SIAscope is quick, harmless and non-invasive.
