It is beautiful. I am giving it as a Christmas gift to my sister. She has MS and is bedridden in a nursing home but has always loved hummingbirds. She will love it.

very happy with purchase

I tried, already, to review this product, but nothing happened; so this is my second try. The quality of the print reproduction is excellent and I would have given this product 5 stars except for the fact that there are ugly brown lines on the top of the canvas that can be seen when this canvas print is hanging on the wall (see attached photo).

A stunning window into a world of intense color and movement.

We love this painting. The Marais is our favorite section of our favorite city.

Artist's Description

Amputation instruments. The Liston knife (bottom) is designed for rapid cutting of soft tissues around the bone, and the leg saw for cutting through bone. These English instruments date from the early 1800s. Amputation was generally the only treatment option when infection or trauma occurred in the limbs and extremities in early nineteenth century medicine. Survival rates for amputees were very low. Anaesthesia and antiseptic surgical techniques were introduced in the second half of the 19th century. These allowed the development of more refined surgical techniques and reduced infection, and amputation survival rates greatly improved.

About Science Photo Library

Science Photo Library was founded in 1981 by Michael Marten, one of the authors of "Worlds Within Worlds", a book exploring different ways to observe the universe - from electron micrographs, to images of earthrise taken from the Apollo spacecraft. When Marten started receiving requests for the beautiful images in the book, he had an idea of setting up Science Photo Library. Since then, Science Photo Library has continued to work alongside world acclaimed photographers and the leading science and medical experts to provide a central source of the best science and specialist imagery available. Although the collection started with scientific images, it has grown to encompass all aspects of science and their impact on everyday life.
