Great auk (Pinguinus impennis) egg. This is William Bullock's great auk egg, held at the Natural History Museum at Tring, UK. This flightless bird inhabited the north Atlantic, breeding on rocky islands. It became extinct in the 19th century, with the last sightings made in the 1840s.
