Description
The Pin-tailed Whydah (Vidua Macroura) is a small songbird. The breeding males, which are very aggresive and territorial, grow long tail feathers during the breeding season. These birds are classified as brood parasites as they lay their eggs in the nests of estridid finches, especially waxbills, and take no part in the rearing of their chicks. The plumage of non-breeding males resembles that of the female perched in the image. Photographed in Paarl, Western Cape, South Africa.
