Description
Proliferating cell nuclear antigen molecule. Molecular model of human proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA, blue, green and red), complexed with its loader protein (purple, orange, grey and maroon). PCNA is a cofactor for DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) polymerase delta, an enzyme that synthesises the new strand during DNA replication and repair. PCNA acts as a sliding clamp, helping to hold DNA polymerase delta to the DNA strand. The loader protein loads the clamp onto its DNA template strand.
