Solar cell, computer enhanced image. High performance solar cell made from a monocrystalline silicon wafer. The contact grid is made from busbars (larger vertical strips) and fingers (small horizontal strips). When light hits it it releases electrons, which are converted into an electrical current. A grid of wires collects the electrons. Solar power is an environmentally-friendly energy source. It does not use up limited resources and does not release toxic waste products. Size of this solar cell: 16 x 9cm.
