This painting makes me happy!! The colors are really fun and, like his other pieces I own, expertly painted. I want to live in this cottage and walk into the ocean. Ordered it on canvas - well executed. Thank you for the smiles!

Artist's Description
Not that far from the fabled Shubert Theater in Boston was that city's "Combat Zone," renown for its sleeze as was New York City's 42nd Street. While the Shubert is known as "The Little Princess," this could have called as "The Side Walk Sleep-In." The "Combat Zone" is no more as is this movie house, rendered obsolete by home video and the internet.

(Rumored to be a particular favorite of Fred Astaire.) The Pilgrim was leveled in 1996.
The streamlined ticket booth is remindful of "Art Moderne" architecture popular in the US from 1925 to the early 1940's.

In 1979 I earned a MA in drama from the University of Arizona; earlier getting a BA in English from the University of Minnesota, where I co-founded the first film society on campus and ran it for four years. While at the U of A, I studied with the master black and white photo essayist W. Eugene Smith (1918-1978) the last year of his life. I am the last person cited in Jim Hughes' definitive biography of Gene, as I wrote about attending his final...
