Description
Back muscles, computer artwork. The two pairs of muscles on either side of the spine are part of the erector spinae. The innermost muscles seen here are the longissimus muscles. Outermost are the iliocostalis muscles. The erector spinae are the strongest back muscles. They maintain good posture and stabilise the torso. Across the middle of the back are the serratus posterior inferior muscles, which attach to the bottom four ribs (nine to twelve). The two triangular sheets of muscle that attach to the skull, shoulder blades and spine are the trapezius muscles.
