Description
The Monastery of San Francisco, Lima, Peru, was consecrated in 1673 and completed in 1774 and is a strong example of Spanish Baroque.
In 1991 it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The church is located one block north from the Plaza Mayor.

The church contains a large library of antique texts, over 25,000 volumes. It also contains catacombs, considered to be Limas first cemetery. Estimated to be over 70 thousand burials beneath the church, were not discovered until 1943.
These catacombs are a popular tourist attraction.combs.
