Description
Andean Condor Conservation Project. Worker assisting in the birth of an Andean condor (Vultur gryphus) chick that has been bred as part of the Andean Condor Conservation Project. The project, founded in 1991, aims to reintroduce Andean condors to the wild through captive breeding programs such as this, and nursing injured birds back to health. In the wild a mating pair of Andean Condors produces only a single offspring every other year, so every chick is vital to the project's success. Photographed at the Buenos Aires Zoo, Argentina.
