Who buys a painting of a goat???? Well it turns out I did, as a gift for my sister who recently lost her beloved Nubian Dam "Drama" ( to some weird goat disease). My sister was SO thrilled with the painting! I don't have a photo of where she hung it but I know it was given a place of honor in her home! Thank you so much to the artist Dottie Draco and to Fine Art America for brokering the painting. Will definitely recommend to friend's and family!

Artist's Description

Plasmodium falciparum plasmodial trophozoite (young trophozoite stage) infecting an erythrocyte (red blood cell), coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM). The trophozoite stage has a distinct parasitophorous vacuolar membrane (yellow) that surrounds the parasite outer membrane (purple). The trophozoite cytoplasm contains a nucleus (blue) with nucleolus (green), a mitochondrion (orange), ribosomes (burgundy) and food vacuole with ingested haemoglobin (dark pink). Malaria is caused by Plasmodium spp., protozoa. It is spread to humans by Anopheles species mosquitoes. The plasmodial parasite reproduces asexually in red blood cells significantly destroying many of them. Release of mature Plasmodium merozoites results in further infection and produces bouts of shivering fever (paroxysms) and sweating that may be fatal. Magnification: x4,920 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.

About Dennis Kunkel Microscopy/science Photo Library

Science Photo Library was founded in 1981 by Michael Marten, one of the authors of "Worlds Within Worlds", a book exploring different ways to observe the universe - from electron micrographs, to images of earthrise taken from the Apollo spacecraft. When Marten started receiving requests for the beautiful images in the book, he had an idea of setting up Science Photo Library. Since then, Science Photo Library has continued to work alongside world acclaimed photographers and the leading science and medical experts to provide a central source of the best science and specialist imagery available. Although the collection started with scientific images, it has grown to encompass all aspects of science and their impact on everyday life.
