Inventory #V2A0669ACR. "Platte" means to braid. I couldn't imagine a "braided river." I had seen the Platte from an airplane by moonlight years ago and really wanted to see it from the ground. I finally had the chance. I drove through the Sand Hill Crane Conservancy, but since this was summer, all the cranes and people were gone. I had the entire place to myself. And, as luck, would have it, one lonely crane showed up to be photographed! I loved how the shallow water slipped around sand bars. The river is so flat that it seems to go on forever. It is not navigable, and crossing it is also difficult, as the bottom is quite soft sand. The Platte starts as two rivers - the North Platte and the South Platte, joining together at North Platte, NE. From there if flows east until it meets the Missouri River.
A photographer since the age of 8 when I received my first camera as a gift from my grandmother, I learned the art of photography by studying such current great artists as George Lepp, Dewitt Jones and Art Wolfe. My inspiration is God's beautiful creation, and I attempt to record it faithfully, shooting landscapes, flowers, animals, and anything that captures my fancy. I shot film until 2012 when I purchased my first pro digital camera. Now I do both, and do all of the creation in the camera before the snap. If the image isn't good enough to print as taken, it is discarded instead of being "improved" through Photoshop. I have my own darkroom and love making my own prints from negatives. One of my favorite techniques is to hand paint...
