The hamlet of Eagle Harbor, Michigan slumbers sandwiched between the towering heights of Mount Baldy and the unpredictable waters of Lake Superior. Its past, linked to the copper mine booms of the mid to late 1800's, is a colorful tale of snowshoe priests and bustling mining port, starvation in deep winters and heroic rescues, of live and death in town carved out of wilderness. Its heyday has past, the mines long since closed, its taverns, shops, hotels, and houses have been re-purposed or slipped into history....a few summer homes dot the lanes, a historical marker or two note the locations of interest, but for the buildings that remain, one can see and hear their tales...of a town destined for greatness and now slumbering in the forest....
Tom and Scott, two self taught (and learning everyday!) photographers live on the tip of Michigan's Keweenaw peninsula, a 45 mile spit of ancient rock surrounded by the majesty of Lake Superior. Scoured clean by the last ice age, the Keweenaw is a geologic and nature lover's paradise, exposing 1.1 billion year old layers of basalt, conglomerate, and sandstones, covered by a thin layer of stony soil that supports a diverse boreal flora and fauna.
