This rather sinister-looking religious procession making its way along the Calle Geneva in Madrid in 1851 was painted by noted French Orientalist Alfred Dehodencq (1822-1882) .Dohodencq spent much of his life in Morocco; presumably this painting resulted from an excursion to Spain, perhaps travelling to, or from, his native France.
