Being from a small town I found it necessary to paint something that related to the small town experience. I love using complimentary colors like blues and oranges, greens and reds that seem to vibrate against each other. Everything about this painting is a reflection of a simple, slow paced way of living that's away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. You almost envision yourself walking down the dirt covered road, going up the stairs and doing some window shopping. I used a lot of earth tone colors such browns, burnt oranges, as noted in the foreground and near the storefront while contrasting these colors against the light blue facade of the store with a hint of light orange in it. The blue sky resonates in the background and the general store building.
