John Hoesly took up photography in the early 1970’s. He learned “by the seat of his pants” to photograph, develop, and print. Hoesly came back to photography after a 15 year hiatus and upgraded to the digital world. In the late 2000’s, a local regional newspaper ran three full page photographic essays of his. He has won several local photo contests. In 2015, several of Hoesly’s landscapes were published in The Raritan River: Our Landscape, Our Legacy (Rivergate Regionals Collection) published by Rutgers University Press. Most of Hoesly’s photography revolves around finding an interesting subject, full of texture and structure, usually not far from his home, and trying to coax out something that is not immediately apparent.
