A couple of old buildings located on the Independence Mine site with the mountains of Alaska in the background. The independence Mine at an elevation of 3,500 feet is located on what is called "Hatchers Pass" outside of Wasilla Alaska in the Wat-Su valley area. During its peak there were more than 200 workers here digging and blasting for gold. More than 140,000 ounces of gold were found here before the mine was shut down as WW II broke out.
