One of my favorite cartoons is now on my tea mug, making me smile whenever I use it. Love it!

Artist's Description

Samuel W. Collins and Washington Vaughan came to what is now Caribou, Maine in 1844. They received four lots of land from the state because they were going to build two mills--which they did. The sawmill needed a dam and a crib dam was built to stop the water from the Caribou Stream. The dam flooded a large area behind the dam which became what we know as the Collins Millpond. I believe that this large group of stumps were once old growth trees that got trapped in the flood and died. All that remains of these grand trees are stumps stranded by the millpond slowly wearing away year after year. They are very poignant to me and are a reminder of the aboriginal forests that covered the area before the lumbermen came.

About William Tasker

William J.Tasker grew up in New Jersey but moved to New Hampshire at the age of eighteen. After fifteen years in New Hampshire, Tasker moved to the far reaches of northern Maine where the population is slight and natural beauty abounds. Unfortunately, so did winter...all six months of it. Now relocated to southern Florida, Tasker specializes in the lovely fauna and flora he finds around him under the banner of Natural Florida Photography. "Striving to make beautiful and thought-provoking images is what gives each day a new feeling of adventure!" Tasker has had a varied work life including many years in a tannery, some years in a hotel before getting lucky on the ground floor of a software company that took up fifteen years of his time...
