Artist's Description

Adelie Penguins (pygoscelis adeliae) off the main Penguin Highway at Cape Hallett, Ross Sea, Antarctica. These little guys were out on their own having left the colony to go fishing. They had a 3-4 Kilometre walk to get to the edge of the fast ice. Perhaps they were just enjoying the scenery which included multiple galciers slowly sliding down the valleys of the Trans Antarctic Range to the sea. Although massive effects of Global Warming have not yet hit the Antarctic, there are signs with more and larger icebergs calving from the ice shelves, and Gentoo Penguins moving further south to breed.
