This is a beautiful piece of "art for daily living." After shopping long and particular, I found this work or art that has a mood from Maynard Dixon's combination of open spaces and societal despair. The bag is well made, and worth the cost to carry this poignant piece around with me.

This oil was done 10/19/2012, en plein air, on location, for the Smith Gilbert Gardens Fall Plein Air Paintout, located in Kennesaw GA. I don't do oils on location very often, usually I work in watercolor or pastel, but this was a nice change and challange for me. This tree was electric with color and several artists painted it.
Donald Maier graduated from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, in Newark, New Jersey in 1968. He won several state and local show awards in the early seventies, including 1st place in oils at the Garden State Art Center in 1971, 1st place for Watercolor at the Red Bank Festival of Arts in 1972 and an Honorable Mention in the Emerging Artists exhibit at Rutgers University in 1973. He had numerous one-man shows in both New Jersey, California and Georgia and has exhibited in many fine galleries in California, Scottsdale, Arizona, Santa Fe, New Mexico and Georgia.
