The backlit wings on this red admiral show conclusively that mother nature came up with the stained glass effect long before mankind. Also it would seem that teasels are not just loved by finches for their seeds, and bees for their nectar, butterflies seem to favour them too. Luckily for all of them this seems to be the year of the teasel, with large numbers self-seeded in a number of areas in the wildlife garden.
Visual Art, what's it for? Decoration? Maybe, if we're lucky, to remind us how things seemed to us when we were children, -new, vivid, and truly astonishing. It's about renewal, learning to see again in the grinding everyday world. "Familiarity breeds contempt", the saying goes, -unfamiliar perspectives regenerate our sense of beauty... The great thing about abstracts is that the final act of interpretation lies with the viewer, creating a very personal relationship with the image based on their emotional state.
