Penny Collins spent her formative years in Brimfield, Ohio, a small rural farming community. Exposure to all cycles of life (and death) taught her early on to appreciate the beauty in the entire journey. She learned to see beauty in the macabre and appreciate the abundance of life found even under rocks. Her art evolved from a need to express emotion, experiences, and map out questionable character reflections in general. Her passion for symbolism and archetypes is mirrored in much of her work. She captures moments of intense transition. Raised her from a baby, feeding her every four hours with moistened cat food and "Polyvisol" vitamin drops when my daughter was just a toddler. Although I thought she was a male and named her "Charlie". Taught her to fly. She roosted in a tree outside my window. Woke me every morning rapping on my bedroom window with her beak and saying, "Good Morning, Charlie!" Since I'm feeling very abandoned today, I am wallowing in the memories of the bond we shared, that bird and me."
