Aside from being incredibly relaxing, a glass of red wine each day can lower the risk of heart disease and several cancers including colon, basal cell, ovary and prostate. It reduces the risk of dementia and depression and reduces the chances of type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. However, too much consumption can lead to alcohol dependence, cirrhosis of the liver and weight gain. All in all 1 - 2 glasses of red wine per day can actually improve overall health.
