At the “Out of Yosemeite” photography workshop that I attended in Feb 2020. I had the unique opportunity to be instructed both didactically and in the field by an amazing artist, Charolette Gibb (https://m.facebook.com/CharlotteGibbPhotography/. Surrounded by the iconic landmarks of Half Dome and El Capitan that have been photographic by thousands if not millions, whose beauty has been documented by professional artists of all format, I found my self looking at them in awe surrendering to the reality that there was no composition that I could find that was original so I just tried to appreciate them then looked elsewhere for those special scenes that captured my eye. Charlotte, encouraged me to use my vision to identify “mini-scapes” which opened up all kinds of beauty RIGHT BELOW MY FEET ! While walking along a riverbank she lead us to in Yosemite Valley, I noticed a thin 1-2 foot band of ice along the shoreline. The sparkling surface, the translucent thin ice that revealed the rock-beds beneath, the fall leaves frozen in suspended hibernation drew me into a world that seemed alien, timeless and exhilarating; a world where time was suspended and one could get lost, shredding the concerns of our earthbound realities.
