The vintage fishing sailboat "Regina M" rocks quietly on small rippling waves under a summer sky at Mystic Seaport, Connecticut. She was built as a carry-away sloop, also known as a "sardine carrier." These were ships used to collect herring from nets in both the Passamaquoddy Bay and the Bay of Fundy and haul them to canneries onshore.
In 1909 the "Regina M" was fitted with a seven-horsepower Fairbanks engine to help propel her through the choppy waters of Passamaquoddy Bay. She has since been restored to her original configuration.
