Description
The start of the beautiful Last Change Range in the southern Nevada wilderness, part of the expansive Mojave Desert. This was taken on a trek out in to the open range lands and scrub in Nye County, Nevada.
The story goes that this was one of the last places for the early explorers to find an occasional spring bubbling to the surface before they came to the area now known as Death Valley. While there are also springs in some areas of Death Valley, they are few and far between. This was one of the last opportunities for the early settlers to stock up on water as they traveled over the arid deserts they had to cross as they settled the western territories.
Many of the place names in the desert are landmarks derived from failed explorations such as "Last Chance Range" "Funeral Mountains" "Badwater Basin" and so on.

What a wonderful shot. Such an arid, alien landscape, yet so crisp and peaceful and beautiful!

It's gorgeous, and only a few minutes from home. Wild horses and burros roam around. and it's just really wonderful out there. Thanks so much, Chance!! :)
