For a bird loving friend it’s perfect.Made her smile

It didn't turn out as good as I expected, although it is still very nice. I suspect it's because it is so much larger than the original painting. The colors are not nearly as bright as the painting, that is they look faded.

Artist's Description

To me, planting an Amaryllis bulb to bloom in time for Christmas has always been a tradition. It signifies birth and beauty at the start of a season when most other plants are dormant. The hybrid amaryllis (Hippeastrum) is a tender bulb easily grown in pots as houseplants. While Amaryllis can be grown outdoors throughout the year in mild climates, itt must be grown indoors any where that freezes. Amaryllis is prized for its huge showy flowers ranging from scarlet or crimson to white in color, and often striped or mottled. Most amaryllis are Dutch or African hybrids selected for flower size, color and ease of forcing. The usual flowering season is from February to April. The foliage grows during spring and summer, ripening early in the fall if temperatures are low and the soil is allowed to dry out. The bulb normally remains dormant until late winter (December or January). The preferred soil mix for amaryllis is high in organic matter such as two parts of loam soil to one part of per...

About Shere Crossman

How does one describe something she has always just..done? A natural artist, Shere was pretty much self taught. That is, until a nasty accident forced her from her nursing profession in 2005 Unable to return to work, she then began to turn her attention more into her art. In 2010 she decided to make it a full time endeavor and returned to school--majoring in Illustration. Whether it's Digital Art, Photography, or Traditional Media, Shere delves into many mediums and formats. The world, and its many creatures, serve as her inspiration. Her style is that of Natural Realism with an effort to portray the heart and soul of the subject she paints or captures with her camera lens. She also has a passion for the wild creatures of the Earth.
