American Oystercatcher by Debra Martz
I went for a drive on about a 10 mile section of the beach for the sole purpose of looking for migrating birds. This was not one of those but I see fewer of them each passing year so it was deserving of a photo. I got out of the truck and slowly walked closer, happy that it stayed and continued its look for food. As their name implies, they do eat oysters. In addition, they eat other bivalves such as clams and mussels.
Scientific name: Haematopus palliatus
