This sculpture is by Austin Barton, and located in the town of Joseph, Oregon, near to the Wallowas Mountain range. The flag was flying right near it, and I chose the title because I think that the "cowboy" is an apt emblem of that spirit of America, with characteristics that can be seen in mostly positive lights. The cowboy is hardworking, persistent, brave, adventurous, yet at times impervious to that which lies outside his focus. I liked the way the cowboy seems, from this angle to be riding into the storm.
