Description
An archaeologist tracing petroglyphs onto plastic in the Puerco Ruin area of the Petrified Forest National Park, USA. Petroglyphs are figures chiselled out of the surface of rocks, those seen here were probably made by ancient Native Americans ('Indians') and are thought to be of religious or historical relevance. Sheets of transparent plastic are laid across the rock, and tracings are made of the petroglyphs. The sheets may then be removed to facilitate investigaton of the images, the petroglyphs themselves are not affected in any way.
