Artist's Description

This is a view from the outside of the Memorial Amphitheater in Arlington National Cemetery was dedicated in May, 1920. There are three annual services at the Memorial Amphitheater which attract approximately 4,000 visitors. These are for two national holidays, Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and the President of the United States generally speaks at these events honoring America's military veterans. The third major gathering is for an annual sunrise service on Easter Sunday. Funerals for the highest ranked members of the military, such as General John Pershing, to the nameless soldiers interred in the adjacent Tomb of the Unknowns, have occurred here as well as services for five victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on America, and the funeral a few years ago for Frank Buckles, the last surviving United States veteran of World War I. (The Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers is located on the steps outside of the eastern side of the amphitheater.)

These photographs are contained in the aptly named "Washington DC" Collection. In addition to "WDC" there are eight other Collections on this page, and two of my favorites are "Paintings" and...
