Love this! Got one for me and one for a friend. I framed it in a red painted frame to which I added red glitter. So cute!!

Love the painting, Hypatia is so pensive, I believe she is pondering her latest experiment!!! The muted colors add to the calmness of the painting.

this appears to be a printer (ink jet) type print. I was disappointed with the quality. I'm sorry.

Artist's Description

Southern wormwood. 16th century Italian illustration of southern wormwood (Artemisia abrotanum), by Gherardo Cibo, 1568. A man collects plants in the background. This plate is taken from Discorsi on Dioscorides' De Materia Medica by Pietro Andrea Mattioli, a work of herbal medicine first published in Italy in 1554. Pietro Andrea Mattioli (1501-1577) was an Italian doctor and naturalist who wrote commentaries on De Materia Medica , an encyclopaedia of herbal medicine by the first century Greek physician and botanist Dioscorides.

About British Library

Science Photo Library was founded in 1981 by Michael Marten, one of the authors of "Worlds Within Worlds", a book exploring different ways to observe the universe - from electron micrographs, to images of earthrise taken from the Apollo spacecraft. When Marten started receiving requests for the beautiful images in the book, he had an idea of setting up Science Photo Library. Since then, Science Photo Library has continued to work alongside world acclaimed photographers and the leading science and medical experts to provide a central source of the best science and specialist imagery available. Although the collection started with scientific images, it has grown to encompass all aspects of science and their impact on everyday life.
