Description
This Assateague foal was napping on the beach. His mother and other mares were very close by. I had to shoot this photo between a group of mares on one side, and another group on the other side. The wild ponies roam freely on Assateague State Park in Berlin, Maryland. Assategue State Park is Maryland's only oceanfront park and is located on Assateague Island.

As many times as I have been out there, I have never caught them on the beach. Good for you, this is just great!

Olivia, you are very fortunate to find them on the beach. I have only seen them there once and it is just great. Congratulations on your sale.

Thanks, Donna! Apparently the older ponies will drink ocean water only briefly, about ten seconds, if they do at all. They usually will drink fresh water from freshwater holes supplied by rainwater and by underground seepage. The foals do not drink water for they drink the mother's milk. They eventually will, of course, drink water as they get older.
