Bought as a Christmas present, my friend was extremely pleased with it. Quite a large size, with big handles, good quality print, strong and well made.

Artist's Description

The Atlantic Mariner passes the Ram Island Ledge lighthouse. The shipping channel is between the light seen here and the Portland Head Lighthouse from which this image was made. The trawler Atlantic Mariner leaves Portland harbor on a good day in May, headed past Rams Island Ledge Lighthouse on the port and Portland Head Lighthouse (where this image was taken) on the starboard. The flashing white light at this 77-foot tower can be seen about 12 miles to sea. This tower was first lit in 1905, but lights or daymarks at this location have been used since 1855. A third order Fresnel lens was lit in 1905 and at high tide the base of the light is under water. The light is similar to the Graves in Bostons outer harbor. It is said that 700 granite blocks of granite were shipped from Maines Vinalhaven Island, weighing in excess of 2500 tons, to build this tower.
