It was a gift for a friend who has worked on these rigs. It’s now in his own company facility. He loves it.
Juneau, Alaska, is home to four different harbors. When commercial fishing is in full swing, they fill up to with fishing boats. I love the strong lines of a good fishing boat, and I love to wander the docks with my camera. This shot was almost an afterthought as I climbed up the ramp from the Don Statter Harbor in Auke Bay. Now it's a personal favorite.
I am a long-time Alaskan, having lived here since 1970. I am retired from state service, after working for the Alaska Department of Corrections for twenty years. In my spare time, I take pictures. I have enjoyed photography since junior high, and I have an extensive photo library. I am working to turn my pictures into an income source to supplement my retirement. My photos include landscapes, nature photos, and abstracts. I have a particular fondness for shooting abandoned places or objects. Subjects range from Southeast Alaska to Interior Alaska, and the stretch of Canada in between. I retain the rights to all images I have posted here.
