This painting is an impressionistic rendering of the colors at the pond a couple of miles from my home. I intended this purely as a color study, so I could learn how to capture the beautiful fall foliage colors that glow all around New England. This is a very loose interpretation, without any fine detail, but the colors are very accurate. I have a tendency to overwork my paintings, and when I leave them loose like this I actually like them a lot better. My wife thinks they look blurry, but all my paintings look that way to her because I have vision problems. I see colors and patterns perfectly. I even see details perfectly, as long as I am looking up close with glasses on. The problem comes when I move from looking at my subject, to looking at the canvas. The field of focus is different, and that makes most of my paintings appear blurry to most people. But I know I am in good company, because it is a well known fact that many great artists had vision problems. El Greco, is a case in point. I happen to like the loose rendering and blurry look.
