Meet Fifi! Not as cute and cuddly as her name might suggest, Fifi is the sister of Enola Gay, the aircraft to drop the first atomic bomb in wartime, essentially putting an end to the Pacific Theatre of WWII. Fifi and Enola Gay are B-29 Superfortresses.
While Enola Gay is on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC, Fifi, who has been lovingly restored, makes her rounds at airshows. At the time these photos were taken at Modesto (2014), Fifi was the only airworthy B-29. Since that time another B-29 has arrived on the scene and been restored, and her name is “Doc.”
A commercial, multi-engine, instrument rated pilot and well-reputed aviation and rodeo photographer, John is a staple at rodeos, air races, air shows, and just about anywhere aviation and rodeo lovers congregate. His images adorn walls and tabletops worldwide. A New York native, John now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. When John is not shooting rodeo and aircraft he also enjoys shooting sports, cityscapes, and landscapes. You will also find images from other events, such as concerts and landscapes. John works full time on the technical side of the legal and compliance world. With a profession like that you can well imagine why he would need a creative outlet and is likely why he speaks of himself in the second-person.
