I love the refreshing presence of the bamboo after the rain. In this modern expressive sumi-e painting I have depicted its transformed energy with rich black and grey ink washes, giving special attention to the fine spirit of the rain-soaked leaves.

The bamboo symbolizes the perfect combination of grace and strength, its virtue lies in that it can bend if necessary but it does not break, its spirit inspires humility and simplicity to the heart.
