I learned a valuable lesson with this painting, I complimented Dominica on this painting before it was completely finished, mind you it only needed the drawn flower painted and her signature to be done. I asked if she would do one similar to it for me when she had some spare time. She told me I didn't have to wait that long I could have this one as soon as she was done with it. She put it down and didn't touch it again. A year and a half later, no joke, the painting was still unfinished. I finally told her that I didn't want it but to please finish it so she could sell it. 'Don't be silly" she said and grabbed the painting, I left. She called me an hour later, the painting was done and to come back for it. Lesson learned, when eying one of Dominica's painting if you are her son never ever tell her that it's beautiful before it's done! To this day she stands by her alibi that it was an oversight, never mind that it hung on the outside wall right next to the door of the room she uses for...

Dominica Alcantara was born in Camjuani, Las Villas, Cuba. As a little girl her parents took her to live in the Canary Islands where she studied painting, her life long passion, in a private academy. When she returned as a young lady she continued her painting studies, learning diverse techniques. As a cuban exile in America working as a teacher she still continued her artistic studies under the tutelage of the late great painter and professor from Madrid Ramon Lapayese.
